Adams Picks up 7 Wins and 2 Championships During Florida Winter Trip

Buzzy Adams kicked off his 2017 season with his annual trip to Florida to compete in the 2nd annual Sunshine State Modified Tour, an 8 race series between the North Florida Speedway in Lake City, FL and the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. Adams, the defending champion of the series also brought along a BMod, as that division was added as a support class for the 2017 tour. (Classick Motorart photos)

The series kicked off on Friday, Feb 3rd at North Florida and Adams got up to speed right out of the box, storming to the wins in both divisions on opening night. Adams chased Kenny Wallace to the line in his heat race, running second and then stormed quickly from his 5th starting spot in the feature to race to the lead and never look back for the opening night win. He also dominated the BMod heat and main event to double up on opening night.

Saturday night, after winning his heat race, Adams again ran up front the entire event, racing with leader Kyle Strickler for much of the event and eventually settling in to a 4th place finish in the night's main. Kevin also ran second in his BMod heat race and ran into some trouble while battling for the lead in the BMod feature and did not finish that main event.

Sunday, after finishing second in his heat and winning the BMod feature for the 2nd time in three nights, Adams ran second in his Modified heat race and then continued his presence at the front of the fields in the Modifieds, only to be involved in a mid race scuffle in which he received some damage and pulled off to save his equipment for East Bay.

After the 3 night swing at North Florida, the team made their way to the East Bay Raceway Park just outside of Tampa for the 4 night Winternationals weekend.
Adams raced to a runner up finish in his heat race and then got up on the wheel to storm from his 12th starting spot to 2nd mid way through the race and battled for the lead, settling for second at the line in the Modified division and after a second place finish in his heat, Kevin won the BMod main event again, making him the first ever BMod feature winner in East Bay history.

Thursday night, Adams was not about to run second again and after a heat race victory, he jumped to the lead passing Strickler on lap 5 and never looking back. Kevin went on to dominate the remainder of the Modified feature event, landing in Brandon Ford Victory Lane. Kevin swept BMod action, winning the main for the second night in a row at East Bay as well.

Friday night, Adams again won his heat race and stormed to the lead in the feature on lap 2, a place he ran for the first 15 laps of the event only to be overhauled by Jeff Mathews for the top spot. Mathews went on to win the main event and Adams raced to a solid second place finish in the Modified main. Adams also ran 3rd in the heat and ran 2nd in the BMod feature to David Reutimann.

Saturday night, the big $5,000, 75-lapper was on the line and Adams was already locked into the main event, drawing the 4th starting spot. Adams ran inside the top five the entire event, keeping leader Mathews in his sights as the laps wound down. Coming to the white flag, Buzzy threw a slider at Mathews and briefly stole the lead, only to have Mathews cross over and steal it back coming to the checkered. Adams settled for a solid second place finish in the East Bay Modified finale. He also ran third in his BMod heat and then a solid second in the BMod feature but the winner was disqualified in tech, handing the win over to Adams, capping off an excellent week in both cars in the sunshine state.

Overall, Kevin won the points championship in BOTH the Modified and BMod divisions and left Florida with 2 Modified wins, 3 2nd place finishes, a 4th and one dnf. He also raced to 5 BMod victories, ran 2nd once and had one dnf.

All in all a great Winternationals for the entire BAR team.
