Adams wins two of five Winternationals features at East Bay; takes home $5,000 in Saturday's finale

Kevin made his annual trek to the sunshine state to start his 2021 season at the East Bay Raceway Park's annual Winternationals. The 5 events kicked off on Tuesday night with Kevin qualifying #1 in his group, which put him on the pole for his heat race. He crossed the finish line third in his heat race, putting him 16th in the feature lineup. From his 16th starting spot, he ran inside the top twenty during the entire event, coming home with an 18th place finish on night #1.

Wednesday, he again qualified #1 in his group, which for the second night in a row, put him on the front row of his heat. From the outside pole, he went on to win his heat race and redrew the 4th starting spot for the night's main event. In the feature, he started 4th and quickly raced his way into the top three and then to the lead, where he was able to hold off all challengers for his first feature win of the 2021 racing season. Thursday, for the third night in a row, Kevin was the top qualifier in his group and started on the pole of his heat race. He was able to win his heat race for the second night in a row and then redrew the pole for the night's feature. From the pole, he ran inside the top five for the majority of the event, but slipped to record an 8th place finish when the checkered flag flew.

Friday, Kevin qualified second in his group, but the invert put him on the front row of his heat for the fourth night in a row, which he was able to race off to the lead and win. From his heat race win, he redrew the five pill, putting him inside the third row for the feature. From his 5th starting spot, he raced inside the top five all night long and recorded a fifth-place finish when he crossed the finish line.

Saturday, Kevin was locked into the 75-lap, $5,000 to win feature event by virtue of being in the top six in week-long points after Friday night's events. Kevin redrew the 5, putting his #40 inside the third row for the weekend finale. Kevin raced inside the top five during the first half of the race, battling for the lead on several occasions until the mandatory fuel stop. After the fuel stop, Kevin began to challenge for the lead and looked to be about to steal the lead away from leader Jason Hughes with just two laps to go, but a caution negated the pass. On the green-white-checkered restart, Kevin wound his machine up on the cushion and blasted around the Clay by the Bay with one last chance at claiming the win. As the white flag flew, Kevin was still in second, but he completed a perfect final lap and beat Hughes off the final turn to the line in a photo finish by just 0.037 seconds to claim the thrilling victory!
